BOSTON – Below is a statement from Danielle Allen of the Coalition for Healthy Democracy:
“The Coalition for Healthy Democracy is committed to making the political system in Massachusetts more open, fair and accountable,” said Danielle Allen of the Coalition for Healthy Democracy. “As part of that effort, we will soon complete the preliminary filings for two ballot questions: an All Party Primary initiative to increase competition and turnout in our elections; and a Public Records initiative to bring more accountability and transparency to state government. More than half of our elections over the past decade have had only one candidate running, and we also rank last in the country in government transparency. This too often means our elected leaders are not answering to the communities they serve. Our campaign is still in its early stages, and we’re looking forward to working with partners across the Commonwealth to discuss these issues, elevate new voices, open up our elections and build a healthier, more responsive democracy.”
